This section of the Japanese course should be considered separate from the rest of the course. It is included here to provide you with an overview of the Japanese grammar, but as a reference tool rather than a learning tool. If you are a beginner, I suggest you skip this part for now, and continue with Lesson 1.

On occasion you will find examples in red. These examples are grammatically incorrect, but are given as illustration of how certain constructions work.

The grammar section is divided into 2 major categories:

Conjugations (J → E)
In this category you will be able to find all the different conjugations in Japanese. The introduction page will give you an overview of the five basic conjugations. This category is further divided by the five basic conjugations where you will find how each conjugation is used. The final division comes from the different forms in which you may encounter the basic conjugation.

Constructions (E → J / J → E)
In this category you will find Japanese sentence constructions and instructions on how to achieve certain grammatical forms in Japanese. Each section has been given a name which describes a collection of constructions related to one another. For instance: You will be able to find the past tense under "Tenses" and questions under "Interrogative forms".

At the bottom of each page you will find a list of related pages. These links will bring you to pages with similar or alternate constructions, or to pages of other related interest.
